Christians ought not to object to this doctrine of the periodical destruction of continents by fire and water; for St. Peter speaks of the Earth “standing out of the water, and in the water, whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished, but [is now] reserved unto fire” (II. iii. 5-7.
